Corporate Events Afloat in Alicante — The Ocean Race's Home Port

Up to twelve passengers on a standard charter — that figure is not ours, it is the threshold in Spanish and international shipping law at which a vessel is classed as a passenger ship and needs a different certification regime. Crew do not count towards it. For larger events we arrange appropriately certified vessels, or run a multi-boat flotilla, which for team-building formats is often the better event anyway: nothing bonds departments like light regatta rivalry. About as deep as it gets. Alicante has been the start port of The Ocean Race — the crewed round-the-world race — for six consecutive editions, with the next start scheduled from here on 17 January 2027. The race's headquarters are in the city, and its museum sits by the harbour. For corporate groups this is useful raw material: a sailing-themed event in the race's own home port has a narrative built in, and we can coordinate a museum visit on request to bookend the charter. If your event lands near race season, expect the waterfront to be buzzing — and book the boat early.

A short one, yes — and it will land harder than it would in a function room. The deck sound system carries a speaking voice, and at anchor in a calm cove the setting gives a two-minute address or an awards moment real weight. What we honestly advise against is trying to run a laptop-heavy working session afloat: sun, breeze and a moving horizon beat any agenda. The pattern that works is meeting ashore, boat for the reward — announcements, toasts and the conversations that never happen across a boardroom table.

In season, remarkably so — Alicante's sea breeze is so regular that meteorologists have used the city as a textbook case study, recording breeze on the great majority of July and August days. That daily cycle means comfortable decks in high summer and honest sailing on the sailing boats. Commitments still matter, so here is ours: the skipper makes the safety call, and if a date must be scrapped you choose between rescheduling and a full refund — terms in writing before you sign. For fixed corporate dates we monitor the forecast with you in the days before and agree any plan B early, not on the pontoon.

Yes — this is the part corporate clients worry about and the part that is easiest to get right. Catering runs from coffee-and-pastries to a served lunch or evening cocktail format, and we collect dietary requirements in advance through one list, one contact. Alcohol policy is yours to set: full bar, wine-with-lunch, or completely dry. Commercially you get a written proposal, itemised pricing, and a single invoice with proper VAT documentation for your finance team. The honest answer: the boat itself does most of the work, and over-programming it is the classic mistake. The formats that consistently succeed are simple — a sail where the crew involves your people in hoisting and trimming, a swim stop with optional challenges, a paella lunch at anchor, or two boats and a gentlemanly race along the bay. What we counsel against is forced-fun choreography with clipboards; a shared deck, a shared task and a shared horizon dissolve hierarchies faster than any facilitated exercise. As a full-day event, yes — with an honest caveat we would rather give you now than on the water. Tabarca is Spain's oldest marine reserve, roughly ten nautical miles out; vessels transiting the reserve must hold between 6 and 10 knots, anchoring is banned outright, and the island's tiny port takes boats up to 10 metres only — so a corporate-sized charter cannot lawfully stop or disembark. The event that works is the voyage itself: a slow circuit of the island with lunch served on deck, then home to swim in the bay. It is a genuinely memorable full-day format for small executive groups — but it does not compress into an afternoon slot, and we will not pretend otherwise.

None whatsoever. Every corporate charter is skippered and crewed by professionals; your attendees are guests from the first rope to the last. Those who want involvement can take a turn grinding a winch or steering under supervision — participation is a dial, not a requirement, and plenty of successful events involve nobody doing anything more strenuous than lifting a glass. Footwear tip for the invitation email: soft-soled shoes, no stilettos on teak.

Yes, at the anchor stops. The skipper brings the boat into one of the clear coves off Cabo de las Huertas — outside the buoyed bathing zones that boats are legally barred from entering — and anchors over clean sand, well clear of the protected seagrass meadows (a new national decree, in force since April 2026, tightened anchoring rules over posidonia across Spain, and our skippers were compliant long before it). The ladder goes down and the swim is entirely optional: in practice about half of any corporate group gets in, and the other half enjoys watching the org chart tread water.

For a standard team afternoon, two to four weeks is usually comfortable outside high summer. The dates that need real lead time are July and August (competition from leisure charters), late June (the city's fireworks competition fills the evening slots of 25–29 June), and anything requiring a passenger-certified vessel for more than twelve guests — the rarest boats on the coast. Around The Ocean Race start in January 2027, expect the whole waterfront to book out months ahead.
