Benidorm Boat Trips — The Skyline Only Exists from the Water

Every serious private charter on this bay works the same way; the difference is that we put it on the page. The taxi ride is short, the marina sits at the foot of the Sierra Helada, and the cruise back towards Benidorm along those cliffs is a highlight in its own right rather than dead transit time.

A taxi is the simple answer — it is roughly eleven kilometres up the coast road, at the Altea end of the Sierra Helada, and drivers know the marina by name. When we confirm your booking we send exact meeting-point directions and the skipper's phone number, so if anything goes sideways on the day there is a human to call rather than a ticket desk. Groups often share two or three taxis and treat the coast road as the opening scene of the trip.

It is the whole point, and we say that as people who sell swim stops for a living. Benidorm is the one city in Spain whose sight is the city — the densest high-rise skyline in the country, stacked against a mountain backdrop — and from inside it, on the beach, you simply cannot see it. From the bay the entire wall of towers lines up above Levante and Poniente at once. First-time visitors tend to go quiet for a minute, and the photographs need no explanation afterwards.

We cruise right around it and stop for a swim in the clear water nearby — the island is the centrepiece of the bay and no decent route skips it. Landing on it is a different product: the regular tourist boat from Benidorm harbour runs foot passengers out on a timetable, and if walking on the island matters to you, that is the way to do it. On a private charter you trade the landing for what the ferry cannot offer — the island close aboard, at your pace, with the swim ladder down and nobody else's schedule involved.

You can, and it is lovely — but let us kill a myth before it costs you a photo you were promised. The Isla de Benidorm lies to the south of the bay, and the sun does not set in the south; it goes down inland, behind the Sierra Cortina, over land. No operator can sell you the island silhouetted against the setting sun, because the compass forbids it. What the evening actually delivers is better than the myth: the low western light hits the skyline face-on, the wall of towers turns gold above the darkening water, and the island sits in the foreground of a genuinely spectacular scene. That is the honest picture, and it is the one worth booking the evening slot for.

Two to four hours depending on the package — these are scenic bay cruises, deliberately the opposite of our full-day expeditions like the Tabarca marine reserve trip from Alicante. Two hours covers the cliffs, the skyline and the island with a swim; three adds an open bar and a longer stop; four adds the evening golden-hour slot. If you want a whole day on the water, say so and we will build one — but most Benidorm groups want the bay, the swim and their evening back, and the short format is honest about that.

Yes — every trip includes a swim stop with the ladder down and snorkelling gear aboard, usually in a quiet spot the skipper picks on the day for calm water and clarity. The bay is sheltered by the Sierra Helada from the north, which is part of why Benidorm's beaches made its fortune in the first place. The skipper follows the coastal rules that keep swimmers and boats apart near the beaches, and anchors only where it is legal and sensible — which, happily, is also where the water is best.

We reschedule or refund, your choice. The bay is one of the more sheltered stretches of this coast, so cancellations are genuinely rare in summer — but if the skipper judges the sea state wrong for a comfortable trip, the trip moves. No pretending, no miserable white-knuckle cruise counted as delivered. You pick a new slot or take your money back, and in July and August you will most likely never need this paragraph.
