Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Valencia
Why SUP in Valencia is Special
Sheltered marina water, flat seas all summer, sunsets over the Mediterranean.
Stand-up paddleboarding (paddle surf, as everyone calls it in Spain) is the easiest way to get on the water in Valencia. Marina Real Juan Carlos I is sheltered and glass-calm in the morning — most beginners stand up within fifteen minutes of their first attempt. From there you can paddle along the breakwater, slip out to Las Arenas beach, or just lounge on the board between dips.
We launch from the marina with brand-new inflatable boards (lighter, stable, dent-proof), full safety gear, and Spanish-speaking certified instructors who'll walk you through the basics in English, French, German, Italian or Russian. No paddle surf licence is required in Spain — SUP is classified as beach equipment under Orden FOM/3200/2007, so you can just turn up, sign a quick waiver and go.

Never paddled? Marina Real is the easiest place to learn in Valencia.
Our beginner lesson starts on the beach with five minutes of stance, paddle grip and falling-off-safely drills, then we walk straight into the sheltered Marina water — no waves, no current, no boat traffic for the first 200 m. By the time you're standing comfortably (typically minute 12), we'll show you how to turn and brake. By minute 30, you're paddling the length of the breakwater on your own.
Children from 7 years can join with a parent. Under-18s need written parental consent. Minimum requirement: you must be able to swim 25 m unaided. We always run beginners inside the harbour breakwater on the first lesson — open-sea paddles only happen once you've shown comfort and balance.

SUP Yoga — Floating Studio with a View
Floating yoga sounds intimidating but is genuinely beginner-friendly. The board is wider, slower and more stable than a standard SUP — and the slight movement of water under you forces your core to engage in a way no studio mat can. Our class progresses from grounding poses (cat-cow, child's pose) through warriors and balance work, finishing with a 5-minute floating savasana under the open sky.
Sessions run Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings at 8:30 in calm sheltered water. Group cap 8 boards. No yoga experience required — we adapt every pose. Bring water and a swimsuit; we provide a quick-dry towel and post-session smoothie.
Best SUP Spots Around Valencia
Three launch points, three completely different experiences.
Marina Real Juan Carlos I
Sheltered, flat, beginner heaven. Our default launch point. Five minutes from Valencia city centre by taxi.
Playa de la Malvarrosa
Urban beach, sandy seabed, gentle in summer. Great for slightly more confident paddlers and sunrise sessions.
Albufera & El Saler
Freshwater lake inside a natural park. Birdlife, total silence, no waves. Premium guided excursion only.
Sunset SUP — The Highest-Rated Hour of the Day
The Mediterranean off Valencia flattens almost every evening as the sea breeze drops. The last hour before sunset gives glassy water, warm low light, and the city skyline silhouetted behind you. Our guided sunset tour leaves the Marina 90 minutes before sundown, paddles north along the breakwater to a calm photo spot, and returns under the deepest pink light.
We carry a drone on guided tours and shoot 30–60 seconds of overhead footage for each group — delivered the same evening as a shareable clip. Sunset tours sell out 24–48 hours ahead in July and August, so book early. Off-season (April / October) is quieter and arguably even more photogenic.

What Our Paddlers Say
Recent feedback from rentals, lessons and sunset tours.
Brought my partner who'd never been on a SUP. Instructor was patient, she stood up within 10 minutes, we paddled the marina for an hour. Best 110 EUR we spent in Valencia.

Did the sunset tour with a group of friends. Light was unreal, drone shots they sent us made our trip Instagram. Worth every cent.

SUP yoga on Tuesday morning was one of those rare experiences that feels nothing like other yoga classes. Floating savasana — wow. Already booked again.

SUP Valencia — Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All Valencia paddle surf schools require basic swimming ability — you should be able to swim at least 25 m unaided. A leash keeps the board attached to your ankle so it never drifts away if you fall, but you'll still need to climb back on. Floating without panic in deep water is the only real prerequisite.
7 years old for rentals and beginner lessons (with a parent on a second board). 12+ for guided tours. 16+ for SUP yoga sessions. Under-18s require written parental consent at check-in — we'll email you the form when you book.
No fixed limit — our boards support up to 130 kg comfortably. We match board volume to rider weight at check-in: lighter riders get smaller, more agile boards; heavier riders get wider, higher-volume boards for stability. Maximum stable weight including paddler + gear is around 140 kg per board.
No. Under Orden FOM/3200/2007, stand-up paddleboards are classified as 'beach equipment' (material flotante de playa) when used within 2 nautical miles of shore. No DGMM title or federation licence is needed for recreational paddling. Confirmed by Spain's Ministerio de Transportes and FESURF.
Swimsuit, sunscreen (reef-safe please), a towel, and a water bottle. Sunglasses with a strap are useful. Leave valuables ashore — we provide a secure locker free of charge. In cooler months (October–April) we provide a neoprene top.
We monitor wind and sea state for 24 hours before each booking. If conditions are unsafe (wind > 15 knots, swell > 60 cm) we reschedule for free or refund 100%. Light winds still run in the sheltered Marina. Valencia averages 300+ sunny days a year so cancellations are rare May–October.
Full refund up to 24 hours before your session. Less than 24h: 50% credit toward a future booking. No-shows are non-refundable. Weather cancellations on our side are always 100% refunded.
Private lessons: 1:1 or 1:2. Group lessons: maximum 1 instructor per 6 students. SUP yoga: cap of 8 boards per teacher. Guided tours: cap of 6 paddlers + 1 lead guide. Smaller groups mean more attention and faster progress.
