Stag Do Boat Benidorm — The Send-Off, Done at Sea

Every serious boat on this stretch lives at Marina Greenwich in Altea, 11 km up the coast, and that is where you board. Yes, it is legal, and the crackdown stories deserve unpicking. The 'party boat ban' with the one-mile rule is Balearic legislation — Ibiza and Mallorca — and has never applied to the Costa Blanca. As for Benidorm itself, the town has no behaviour ordinance aimed at stag groups at all, and even if it did, town by-laws stop at the municipal boundary: your boat departs from Altea and spends the day at sea. What does apply out there is ordinary maritime law — swim-zone and speed rules that bind every boat afloat — and your skipper handles those. Enjoy yourselves.

Yes. The famous story about Benidorm fining fancy dress traces back to a rule about what shops may put in their display windows — it targets shopkeepers, not tourists, and no tourist has a costume problem here. The clearest proof: Benidorm stages its own official Fancy Dress Party each November with crowds in the tens of thousands. So dress the groom however the group chat decided. The only wardrobe advice that matters on a boat is: bring swim shorts too.

Every boat has a certified capacity and we do not exceed it. The '12 passengers' number floating around is a threshold in Spanish shipping regulations — above twelve passengers a vessel must be certified as a passenger ship — not a party-boat rule invented for stags, and the crew do not count towards it. Eight to twelve fit our standard boats well; bigger groups need a vessel certified for more, which we can arrange. Give us the honest number, including the two who 'will confirm by Friday'.

No, and it is national law rather than us being difficult: Spanish coastal regulations ban navigation inside the buoyed swimming zones entirely, and where a beach is not buoyed, boats must stay 200 metres off and crawl at 3 knots inside that strip. In practice you are not missing anything — the water off the island is clearer, the anchorage is sandier, and nobody's stag photos improve by being taken thirty metres from a crowded beach. We swim where the swimming is better.

If the skipper judges the day unsafe or simply no fun, we reschedule or refund — a stag do in a swell benefits nobody, least of all the boat's upholstery. Statistically you are in good shape: July averages about 4 mm of rain here for the entire month. The autumn carries more risk of the Mediterranean's short violent storms, so if you are booking September or October, build a fallback evening into the plan just in case.

The easterly. It is the one weather pattern that genuinely ruins sea days on this coast — and the official regional guidance is clear that the danger is the sea state it whips up, not the wind itself. Benidorm's bay helps us out: when the levante blows, the Poniente side and the water tucked behind the old-town headland at Cala del Mal Pas stay workable, and the skipper routes accordingly. If even the sheltered side is no good, we call it early and rebook you rather than sell you a bad day.

Affect in the good sense, mostly. Fogueres de Sant Joan, 19–24 June, fills the beaches with bonfires and all-night crowds — Benidorm still permits beach fires when some neighbouring cities have banned them, and the town is heaving that week. In mid-July the Virgen del Carmen festivities include a sea procession across the bay with a 21-gun salute (16 July in 2026, from about 18:00). Fireworks here are launched from land, not from the sea, so nothing restricts where the boat goes. Fiesta weeks mean booking earlier and paying a little more, and they are worth both.

Better than almost anyone expects. The Fiestas Mayores run 6–11 November 2026, and Thursday 12 November is Benidorm's enormous Fancy Dress Party around Calle Gerona and British Square — tens of thousands in costume, heavily British, absolutely a stag-compatible crowd. The sea is cool by then, so think deck cruise with the skyline and a cooler full of beers rather than a swimming day. Prices are lower, the town is buzzing, and flights are cheap. A genuinely underrated move.

No — every stag charter is skippered, and the bigger boats carry crew too. Nobody in your party is in charge of anything more technical than the playlist. For what it is worth, Spanish law tightens rules on unlicensed motorboat hire from 1 October 2026, so the self-drive bargain option is disappearing coast-wide anyway.
