Your own boat on Fuerteventura

Turquoise bays at Corralejo, the islet of Lobos just offshore and a long coast all to yourselves.

Boat hire in Fuerteventura runs from sailing boats at about €355 a day to catamarans, motorboats and RIBs on request. Send a date and a headcount, and available boats and prices come back within 2 hours in business hours, free and with no obligation. Your own private boat, your group only, your music, and a skipper on board, so nobody needs a licence.

The prize here is Isla de Lobos, off Corralejo. To step ashore, each guest gets a free permit from the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, easy to do online. The system opens three days ahead, so you book the boat first and pick up the permits as your date comes up. Your skipper handles the boat, and you handle the swimsuit.

Corralejo's turquoise bay and dunes, Morro Jable far to the south, Caleta de Fuste on the east coast: this is a long island with a lot to see from the water. Tell us where you're staying, and we'll find you a boat at the right end. Popular dates go early, winter included, and about 31% of searches for boats here come between November and March.

Ports, and the islet

Start from the end of the island you're staying on.

Corralejo

The harbour nearest Lobos, with a turquoise bay and the Corralejo dunes beside the town. It's the natural start for a boat day in the north, and a beautiful place to come back to in the evening.

Isla de Lobos

The islet off Corralejo, and the reason many people want a boat here. A free permit per guest lets you step ashore, and from the water it's a superb stop for a swim whether you land or not.

Morro Jable

In the far south, with docks of 400 m and 188 berths. Start here for the long sands of the Jandía coast, and let your skipper pick the sheltered side for the day.

Caleta de Fuste

On the east coast, also known as Puerto Castillo, and a favourite search for boat trips. Staying nearby? Name it in your request, and your offer shows where you board.

Stepping ashore on Isla de Lobos

A free permit for every guest, and a few simple steps to get it.

A visit to Isla de Lobos takes a free Cabildo authorisation, which you get through Lobospass, its web app, or in person. Online, you're shown the next three days, each with a morning slot and an afternoon slot. You click Quiero ir next to the day and slot you want, then enter each visitor's details.

The authorisations arrive by email, each with a reference above a QR code. Keep them on your phone and you're all set. The manual speaks of one, two or three authorisations on a request, so a bigger group simply makes several.

The trick is timing: book the boat first, then apply as soon as your date opens, three days ahead, and match the slot to your boat's timing. And if the morning slots have gone, your skipper can always give you a great day on the water around the islet.

Good to know

No licence? No problem

With a skipper included in every offer, nobody in your group needs a licence, so you get the day without any paperwork. To drive a rented motorboat yourself you'd need one, whatever its size.

Your skipper finds the swim stop

Off Corralejo and Jandía there are seagrass strips to keep clear of, so your skipper picks clean sand and any permits the boat needs are taken care of.

Dolphins and whales

If dolphins show up, your skipper slows down and keeps a respectful distance. If watching them is the whole point, choose a boat with the yellow Blue Boat flag.

Season and wind in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura airport is the driest of the four Canary airports: 98 mm of rain a year, with June, July and August at zero. Average highs run from 20.6 °C in January to 27.8 °C in August, so this is a real all-year boat island, and a superb winter escape.

Trade winds are part of the island's character, especially towards Morro Jable, so your skipper picks the sheltered stretch and the time of day. Stay a little flexible on your date, and the wind becomes the thing that makes the water sparkle, not the thing that stops your day.

What you get

All of it from one short request.

  • Sailing boats to catamarans, whichever suits your day
  • Boats and prices for your date, back within 2 hours in business hours
  • No charge to ask and no commitment
  • The entire boat, with your group only and your playlist on board
  • Skipper included, so licences aren't an issue
  • A day built around Isla de Lobos, if that's your plan
