Your own boat in Tenerife, in any month

A wide choice from sail to motor yacht, on the leeward side of an island with no real off-season.

We have a wide choice of boats for rent in Tenerife at every price: sailing boats from about €345 a day and motorboats from about €560, with catamarans and motor yachts on request. Tell us your date and group, and within 2 hours in business hours you'll have available boats and prices in front of you, free and with no obligation.

This is the island where a winter boat day is completely normal. More than a third of Tenerife's boat searches fall between November and March, with January highs around 21.7 °C on the south coast. Popular dates go early in February as well as August, so tell us yours in good time.

The day itself is the Los Gigantes cliffs from the water, the calm leeward south-west coast, and swim stops chosen by a skipper who works there. The whole boat is yours, with your group only and your music, and the skipper is included, so nobody needs a licence. Tell us where you're staying, and we'll find you a boat nearby.

Marinas and where boats leave from

Pick the marina nearest your hotel, or the one closest to the day you want.

Puerto Colón, Costa Adeje

The big harbour of the south-west, with room for 364 boats plus 237 places in dry dock, up to 24 m long. It sits on the leeward coast, so the calmer water is right outside. The obvious start for boat hire in Costa Adeje.

Los Gigantes

368 berths, with the cliffs beginning right behind the marina. If they're the point of your day, this is the short way to them: board, cast off and look up.

Las Galletas

A favourite start on the south coast, and a great one if you're staying nearby, with plenty of swimming along the local shore. For a run to the cliffs, ask for a faster boat.

Radazul

On the east side of the island, and handy if you're staying near Santa Cruz. It gives you a different stretch of coast from the resorts of the south.

No licence? No problem

Every offer comes with a skipper, so nobody in your group needs a title.

With a skipper on board, nobody needs a licence, and that's the simplest way to hire a boat in Tenerife. No course, no paperwork and no worrying about the wind: you enjoy the cliffs while someone who knows them handles the helm. If you searched for boot mieten ohne Führerschein or a boat without a licence, this is what you want.

Got a licence and want the wheel? Any rented motorboat needs one, at any size, so include a copy with your request and your offer shows what you can take out yourself.

Or get your own: the licencia de navegación is a course from a sailing or motorboat federation or a nautical school, with 2 hours of theory and at least 4 of practice, plus a medical check, from age 18, or 16 with parental consent. It lets you take boats up to 6 m out by day, no more than 2 NM from a port, marina or shelter.

Good to know

Your skipper picks the swim stop

Clear sand, a sheltered corner and any local permits are all down to your skipper, so a stop is always a good one and the seagrass strips off this coast stay clear.

Whales and dolphins are the neighbours

Pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live off this coast all year, so keep a camera handy. If they show up, your skipper keeps a respectful distance so they stay. For a trip dedicated to them, see the whale-watching page.

Bigger groups take two boats

Tell us your headcount first. The typical boat takes 8, larger ones take 12, and a bigger group books a second boat and shares the day.

When to hire a boat in Tenerife

Any month. Tenerife Sur airport averages a high of 21.7 °C in January and 28.4 °C in August, with just 132 mm of rain a year and none in June or July. Winter here is ordinary boating season, the kind of day out most of Europe can only look at in photographs.

The south-west is the leeward side and generally the quieter water, so that's where your skipper heads when the trade winds pick up. Demand barely dips: searches peak in August and bottom out in December by a factor of only about two, against about seven on Mallorca.

Professional skippers from local charter companies, working the south-west coast and the waters off Los Gigantes.

For the cliffs, start at Los Gigantes. For the leeward south-west coast, Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje is the obvious marina. Staying further south? Las Galletas is a great start for a local day.

Yes, on request. It's a whole boat for your group, with a big deck for lunch and swimming, so ask early for popular dates.

You might: bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales live off this coast all year, though no day out can promise a sighting. If they appear, your skipper keeps a respectful distance. If the animals are the main goal, the whale-watching page has trips on boats flying the Blue Boat flag.

Yes. It's one of the best things about the island: highs of about 21.7 °C in January on the south coast, little rain and calmer water on the leeward side. Keep a second date free if you can.
